Emily Harris Gant is a member in the firm’s Litigation department, where her practice emphasizes products liability and hospitality concerns.
An Oregon native, Ms. Gant graduated cum laude with honors in History from Whitman College. After college, she taught second grade in rural Mississippi with the Teach for America program. Ms. Gant received her law degree from the University of Washington School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Ms. Gant served as a law clerk to the Honorable Elaine M. Houghton of the Washington Court of Appeals, Division II. Her professional memberships include the Washington State Bar Association and the King County Bar Association. Ms. Gant currently serves on the Board of the Future of the Law Institute, a program that encourages high school students of diverse backgrounds to pursue higher education in law. As a Board member, she helps recruit law firms to host summer internships.
Representative Hospitality Matters
- Advised wineries on 50-state trade practice issues, including permissible advertising specialties and product displays
- Advised wineries on 50-state wine tasting rules
- Advised wineries on Washington’s Tied-House laws
- Filed successful summary judgment motion for client, where plaintiffs filed claim arising from over-service of alcohol
Representative Product Liability Matters
- Serve as national outside general counsel for medical device manufacturer, including management of several multi-million dollar cases throughout federal and state courts
- Defended manufacturer of an oral surgical drill against a $15 million claim for hearing loss
- Defended distributor of a dental anesthetic after plaintiff sustained partial facial paralysis allegedly due to injection of the anesthetic
Representative General Litigation Matters
- Represented subcontractor in a $5 million AAA arbitration, after the general contractor refused payment
- Defended subcontractor against negligence claims arising from a fall at Children’s Hospital
